ARTS IN THE COMMUNITY
ARCH Development has a strong commitment to the Anacostia Community. Whether working in partnership with its sister organization, The ARCH Training Center, or other community groups & individuals, ARCH has always believed that arts and cultural activities are an essential & key component in Economic Development and Education.

Artist Housing and Workspace

ARCH is dedicated to providing affordable housing and workspace for local artists.

Through the Honfleur Gallery ARCH has provided three affordable artist work spaces equipped with sky lights and 24 hour access.

The first artist housing project was a four-unit building located at 1706 16th Street, S.E., D.C. Within the building, two units have been and will continue be designated for the “ARCH Residency Program.” The remaining two units fulfill short term residencies termed as ARCH’s “Visiting Artist Program.”

ARCH has been approved by the Zoning Administration to develop for-sale artist housing on V Street, SE. The new project, which will be built using green housing techniques, will provide 8 units of one-to-two bedroom condos as well as four artist work spaces. Construction will begin in early 2009.

ARCH is also working with a number of local cultural organizations helping them secure and/or develop office and work space. ARCH currently provides office and gallery space to the American Poetry Museum. The museum is currently located at 1922 Martin Luther King Ave. SE. Please see the American Poetry Museum’s website for hours of operation and details on its bi-monthly, “Intersections” Poetry Readings.
